The landmark international Jewish Performing Arts Festival KulturfestNYC brought in over 50,000 New Yorkers and visitors to over 100 events in June 2015. In 2016, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene has organized a summer-long festival of music, theater and film that will include a historic remounting of the Folksbiene’s unprecedented hit operetta The Golden Bride. In addition, beginning June 6, Kulturfest will feature concerts, celebrations, and screenings in various New York locations including Central Park SummerStage, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, Joe’s Pub, City Winery and more. FILMS IN YIDDISH, ENGLISH, AND OTHER LANGUAGES (with subtitles) including new feature films, recently restored classics, filmed plays and contemporary documentaries exploring Yiddish theater, language and culture. An array of guest speakers, including film directors, will provide stimulating insights.
INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED scholars of Yiddish theater, history and Yiddish language, will discuss, explore, and delve into the Influence of Yiddish Theater on American and International Theater, Film and Culture. In partnership with NYU.
Free workshops, lectures, childrens programs, and outdoor concerts. Festival-related exhibits and programs will also take place at a variety of local cultural, historical, civic, social and religious organizations around NYC.
